"How much does a website cost?" – it is the question I hear most often from business owners in Harghita County, and the one that gets the fewest straight answers online. In this article I put down concrete numbers, and I also explain what sits behind them.
The short answer: 2,500 to 15,000 RON
A simple but well-crafted company website in Székely Land, Transylvania starts at 2,500 RON in 2026. A WooCommerce online shop where customers can actually buy and pay starts at 5,000 RON. A larger site with custom features (booking, membership, a multilingual product catalogue) lands somewhere between 10,000 and 15,000 RON. These starting prices are listed on my own pricing page – they are not a secret, and not "quote on request".
What drives the price?
- The number of pages and the amount of content: a 5-page brochure site and a 40-page institutional portal are not the same job.
- Custom design or a template: a template is cheaper, but a design tailored to your brand pays off more in the long run.
- Features: a contact form is standard, but online payment, a booking calendar, customer accounts or invoicing integration are separate development work.
- Number of languages: a Hungarian-Romanian-English site means three times the content and configuration, not just a translation.
- Who supplies the text and images: if I have to write or source these too, both the time and the price go up.
What does a cheap quote leave out?
When someone offers you a website for 800 RON, it is worth asking: does it include a mobile-optimised layout, cookie consent and GDPR compliance, basic search engine optimisation (titles, descriptions, sitemap), security hardening, and will it still work a year from now? In my experience, most "cheap" sites have to be rebuilt within a year or two because they cannot be updated, they are slow, or they got hacked.
What is included in my starting price?
The 2,500 RON brochure website includes a custom, responsive design, 5-6 pages, a contact form with spam protection, cookie consent and privacy pages, basic SEO setup with Search Console connected, and a short training session so you can edit the content yourself. I describe it in detail on the business websites page.
One-off cost or monthly fee?
Building the website is a one-off cost. What recurs: the domain and hosting (you pay these to the provider, I help you choose), and optionally maintenance, which starts at 250 RON/month with me. I wrote a separate article on why maintenance is worth it.
How to ask for a quote the smart way
Describe what your business does, who you want to reach, what pages you have in mind, and whether you already have text, photos and a logo. That is enough for me to send you a concrete price and deadline within a day. The form on the contact page takes a few minutes to fill in, and the first consultation is free.
