I provide ongoing maintenance and new development for the USA Medical online store (WordPress + WooCommerce, Elementor): updates and security, speed optimisation, campaigns and new features, integrations. The store has high traffic, so stability and speed directly affect sales.
The challenge
USA Medical is a webshop distributing CBD oils and food supplements, with a Hungarian warehouse and high traffic. I did not build this site. My job is running it continuously, which is talked about far less. In a high-traffic store every hour of downtime and every second of load time shows up directly in revenue. And the WordPress plus WooCommerce combination does not stay stable on its own.
The solution
- Regular updates: WordPress, WooCommerce, Elementor and the plugins together, tested, because a blind update on a webshop is the most expensive kind of mistake.
- A security layer and monitoring, because a webshop handles payment and customer data.
- Continuous speed optimisation with recurring measurement.
- Campaigns and new features implemented according to the store's business needs.
- Integrations with existing systems.
My role
In this project I handle the continuous maintenance and new development. The initial build was not my job. This is the most underrated item in the portfolio. It is not spectacular, but this work keeps a webshop running for years.
The result
The store runs stably, updates do not come with downtime, and the speed does not quietly degrade over time. In a high-traffic webshop that is the definition of success: that nothing happens.
What maintaining a high-traffic webshop means
Not pressing an update button once a month. Before updating, the round runs on a copy, because a payment or shipping plugin failing in a high-traffic store is a loss measurable by the hour. Then we check the critical path: product page, cart, checkout, payment, confirmation email. If those work, the update is done; if not, there is somewhere to roll back to. That is the difference between maintenance and just updating.
Speed degrades slowly
An online store does not become slow overnight. The product count grows, orders accumulate, the database swells, a new plugin brings extra scripts with it. Six months later, checkout is noticeably more sluggish, only nobody can say since when. So I monitor speed continuously instead of measuring it now and then. Cleaning the database, filtering out unnecessary load and configuring caching correctly are continuous work.
A regulated product range
Communication around CBD products is constrained, and the regulation differs by country. Effects cannot be promised, active ingredient content and composition must be stated exactly, and shipping restrictions have to be enforced in the purchase flow. This is not only a legal matter: payment providers are also sensitive to this category, so an imprecise product description can put the payment option itself at risk.
Returning customers: what must not break
At this store a significant share of the revenue comes from repeat purchases. That means the customer account, past orders and saved shipping details are the most used parts of the site. An update that breaks them loses a returning customer. That is why every update goes onto a copy first.
