WordPress maintenance and care, for a monthly fee
Launching the site is not the finish line. WordPress, the plugins and the theme are updated weekly; what is secure today will not be in six months. A monthly plan takes that off your hands: updates, backups, monitoring, speed – and someone to call when something breaks.
What goes wrong on an unattended site
Outdated plugins
Most compromised WordPress sites are not targeted attacks: automated bots scan for old plugins with known vulnerabilities. One skipped update leaves the door open for months.
No restorable backup
A hosting backup is not the same as a restorable backup. Many providers only keep copies for a few days – malware that got in weeks ago can no longer be undone with it.
A site that keeps slowing down
Images, log tables and plugins nobody uses any more pile up over time. The slowdown is gradual, so it is invisible from the inside – but not to the visitor.
A form that breaks silently
A contact form can stop sending after a PHP or plugin update without showing any error. Until someone tests it, the enquiries simply never arrive.
Plans
All three plans are invoiced monthly and can be cancelled at any time, effective at the end of the month. It does not matter who built the site.
- WordPress, plugin and theme updates, tested on a copy first
- Daily automatic backups, restorable for 30 days
- Uptime monitoring with alerts on downtime
- Firewall and login protection kept up to date
- Monthly status report by e-mail
- 30 minutes of content changes per month
- Reply within 2 business days
- Everything in the Basic plan
- 2 hours of content or development changes per month
- Quarterly speed optimization (cache, images, database)
- Core Web Vitals and PageSpeed monitoring
- Monthly test of the contact forms
- Monthly review of Rank Math / Search Console errors
- Reply within 1 business day
- Everything in the Business plan
- 4 hours of content or development changes per month
- WooCommerce and plugin updates tested in a separate environment
- Payment, cart and courier integrations tested every month
- Twice-daily backups, including order data
- Reply within 4 business hours, payment errors handled first
How it starts
Health check
I go through the site: WordPress and plugin versions, backups, known vulnerabilities, speed, forms. You get my findings in writing. It is free and commits you to nothing.
Cleanup, if needed
If there is a backlog – old versions, malware, missing backups – I quote that separately as a one-off. The monthly fee only starts once the site is on a clean footing.
The monthly rhythm
From there, updates, backups and monitoring run in the background. At the end of each month you get an e-mail report on what happened and how much change time was used.
I did not build the site – will you still take it on?
Yes, most of my maintenance contracts are exactly that. Nothing needs migrating or rebuilding: I take the site as it is. If it is built in a way I cannot maintain safely, I tell you so in the health check – before you pay anything.
Frequently asked questions about maintenance
How fast do I get a reply if the site goes down?
It depends on the plan: 2 business days on Basic, 1 business day on Business, 4 business hours on Online store. A full outage is handled first on all three plans, because uptime monitoring alerts me immediately.
Do you handle the hosting too?
Hosting and the domain stay in your name and on your invoice – that matters, because it means you never depend on me. Configuration, migration and dealing with the provider are on me.
What if an update breaks the site?
That is exactly why I never update on the live site: I run it on a copy first and only push it through if everything is fine there. If something still goes wrong, the daily backup restores the previous state in minutes.
What is not included in the monthly fee?
Building new pages and features beyond the included hours, copywriting and translation, premium plugin licenses, and a full redesign. Those always get a separate quote, agreed in advance.
