I built the new WordPress website for the Pahru Foundation, active since 1991: custom theme, admin-editable content (ACF), master programmes, news and publications, contact form, cookie consent and SEO.
The challenge
The Pro Agricultura Hargitae Universitas Foundation has operated in Miercurea Ciuc since 1991: it hosts the off-campus master's programme of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, accredited adult-education courses, research and publications. The old website ran on outdated technology, was hard to use on mobile, and every update to courses or news required outside help.
The solution
- A custom WordPress theme tailored to the foundation's identity, fast and built mobile-first.
- All content (courses, news, publications, partners, contact) is editable from the admin without code (ACF fields), so the team can update it themselves.
- Contact form with spam protection, cookie consent and GDPR pages.
- SEO from day one: titles, descriptions, structured data, sitemap; security and performance settings.
- The old site was kept as an archive on a subdomain, hidden from search engines, so nothing was lost in the transition.
The result
The foundation manages its own content, prospective students can browse the courses comfortably on their phones, and the site loads in under a second. The whole project was in one pair of hands, from design to launch: development, content migration and training.
Three content types, three different logics
The foundation's site has several kinds of content. The courses are permanent but refreshed every year: they have a curriculum, an application deadline, a venue and a date, and that is exactly what applicants look for. News runs chronologically and loses its relevance after a few weeks. Publications, by contrast, stay valid for years and often become citable references. These three cannot be handled with one template. Each got its own structure, its own listing page and its own internal logic, so that the colleague working in the admin does not mix up what goes where.
Thirty-five years of the Pahru Foundation as content
For a foundation working since 1991, the past is the basis of credibility. So the timeline is a structural element of its own instead of a paragraph in the about text. It shows when the programmes started, when the activity expanded, and where the Agricultural Innovation Centre stands now. The gallery and the partner list serve the same purpose. Institutional trust is built from these small pieces of evidence more than from one self-describing sentence.
Master's programmes: making the decision easier
Applicants to the rural development engineering or the game management master's arrive with concrete questions: what will they study, how long does it take, when is the deadline, how do they apply. These sit on separate subpages per programme, in the same structure, so they can be compared and so that search can land people directly on the programme. For the accredited courses aimed at farmers, the venue and the date are the most important data, so there I put them first.
Migration, training, life after launch
The new site did not start from an empty page: the earlier content was carried over, and the old addresses point to their new counterparts so that search positions and external links are not lost. Launch was followed by training, because at a foundation the content is not uploaded by an IT specialist: the goal was for a colleague to be able to write a news item, edit a course and add a publication confidently, without being able to break anything.
