Bilingual (HU/RO) website for a mountain resort in Harghita: three accommodations with their own pages and prices, adventure programmes, gallery and a video home page.

I built the bilingual (Hungarian-Romanian) website of the Piricske resort on WordPress: the three accommodations (Vén Fenyő Kunyhó, White Fox Luxury Dome and Mountain Rest Guesthouse) each got their own page with prices and facilities, alongside the programmes, the gallery and contact, with a video home page that also works on mobile.

The challenge

Piricske is a growing resort in the heart of the Harghita mountains, 15 kilometres from Miercurea Ciuc. It is not a single guesthouse: three completely different places to stay (a wooden cabin, a geodesic dome and a guesthouse with a restaurant) belong to the same location, and alongside them there are programmes, from off-road safari tours to event organisation. The task was to keep all of this from becoming a crowded single-page brochure, and to build a structure in which the guest finds their own holiday, and in which a new accommodation or programme still fits later on.

The solution

  • All three accommodations got their own page, in the same structure: capacity, facilities, minimum booking length and price, so that guests can compare them.
  • Prices and conditions also appear on the listing page. In accommodation search the price is the first filter, and whoever cannot find it moves on.
  • The programmes live on a separate page as standalone entries rather than bullets in a list: this way they can be extended, and they can also be found on their own.
  • A video home page that shows the place. At a forest resort the view is the offer itself.
  • Bilingualism: the Hungarian and Romanian content run on separate URLs, on their own language paths.
  • Mobile-first build, because accommodation search almost always starts on a phone.
  • Contact details and a phone number in the header and at the end of every page, because here a booking starts with a conversation.

The result

The three accommodations became three standalone pages that can be shared and found from search, with prices and facilities, instead of one common list. The programmes can be extended the same way, without involving a developer. The guest can go all the way from getting to know the place to making contact in their own language, on a phone too.

Three accommodations, three kinds of guest

The cabin, the dome and the guesthouse serve three different needs. A larger group travelling together comes to the cabin, the dome is typically for a couple or a family with small children for one special night, and the guesthouse is for those who need a restaurant and an event room. If these were listed one below the other on a single page, each guest would read the other two before reaching their own. On separate pages, each one speaks to its own audience and can be shared on its own. That is the most common way an accommodation gets found: someone sends the link to the group.

The price is not a detail

In accommodation search the price and the minimum booking length are the first decision point. If they only come out on enquiry, some guests never even get as far as enquiring, and the owner answers requests that never turn into bookings. That is why prices and conditions were put on the accommodation list as well, not only on the detail pages.

Moving image and speed

At a forest resort the video matters: the pine trees, the snow and the panorama are what the guest is buying. That same video is also the biggest speed risk. The home page is therefore built so that the text and the tappable phone number are there immediately even while the video is still loading. That includes a weaker mobile connection, which is common at a mountain destination.

Bilingualism in a mixed-language region

Some guests look for the same place in Hungarian, others in Romanian. The two languages run on separate paths with their own URLs, and the language switcher leads to the counterpart of the given page. With accommodation this matters especially: someone arriving from a shared link should not be thrown back to the home page, but taken exactly to the place being talked about.
